Issue 1, written 2026-10-15. Sources are named in each item. Nothing here is financial advice or a forecast of earnings.

1. YouTube changes who can join its Partner Program, from 2027-02-01

YouTube’s own announcement (blog.youtube, 2026-08-10) sets new-applicant thresholds starting 2027-02-01: 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days, or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Until 2027-01-31 the current numbers still apply (4,000 hours or 10 million Shorts views; the 1,000-subscriber floor is reported by third parties and is not repeated in the blog excerpt we read). Creators already in the program are not removed. Shorts revenue share requires 10 million qualified Shorts views per rolling 90 days.

Two related items: a public view now counts from the first frame, but pay and eligibility still run on “engaged views” (YouTube, 2026-08-19). And YouTube said on 2026-10-01 that Shorts reach is being cut for channels that mostly re-upload other people’s clips; that detail comes from press quoting the Creator Insider update, not a page we opened.

Why it matters: if you plan to apply, the window to use the lower bar closes at the end of January.

2. Etsy: disclose AI in the listing description, and keep titles short

Etsy’s Creativity Standards say sellers must disclose in the listing description when an item is created with the use of AI (etsy.com/legal/creativity, page updated 2025-06-10). Etsy does not prescribe wording. Its seller handbook (updated 2026-04-27) now advises fewer than 15 words in a title with the item’s key traits first (Etsy Seller Handbook), which replaces the older fill-all-140-characters advice. Fees page (updated 2026-10-05): $0.20 per listing and a 6.5 percent transaction fee (Etsy fees).

What we could not confirm: Etsy publishes no definition of its Bestseller badge or the “in N carts” label, so we do not treat either as proof a product sells.

3. Whop clipping: the fee and the wait

Whop’s Content Rewards Creator Terms (last updated 2026-10-04) describe a flat 10 percent creator fee on payouts and a CPM round of a 7-day earning period plus a 3-day hold (Whop terms). Whop’s blog says clippers are on average paid $1 per 1,000 views, an average Whop states and not a promise (Whop blog); after the fee that is about $0.90, our arithmetic. An older Whop blog post says approved payouts are instant, which conflicts with the current terms; we go with the terms. Minimum payouts are set per campaign.

See the Whop clipping checklist.

4. Freelance platforms: what you keep

Fiverr’s help page says freelancers receive 80 percent of the client’s cleared payment, with a 14-day clearing period (Fiverr). Upwork’s freelancer fee ranges from 0 to 15 percent per contract and is shown on the offer (Upwork). Use the gig price calculator to work back from the take-home you want.

5. One tool note

Google announced Gemini 4 Argon for developers on 2026-10-13 (Google blog). We have not tested it, so we say nothing about quality or price here.
