No income claim here: we cannot tell you a template will sell. This is the listing mechanics, with each rule tied to Etsy’s own page.
Rules that decide the listing
| Rule | What Etsy says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Digital item type | Choose “Digital files” when you create the listing; the file must be uploaded before you can publish | Etsy help |
| File limits | Up to 5 files, 20MB each | same page |
| Your own design | Digital items must be made and/or designed by you | same page |
| AI disclosure | Disclose in the listing description if the item was created with the use of AI | Creativity Standards |
| Title | Fewer than 15 words, key traits first, no price/shipping/sale words, don’t repeat words | Seller Handbook, 2026-04-27 |
| Tags | Use all 13, up to 20 characters each, multi-word phrases beat single words, no repeats | Keywords 101 |
| Cost | $0.20 per listing; 6.5% transaction fee (separate payment-processing fee we did not read) | Fees |
A title that follows the rule
Plain item first, then the traits: Editable staff schedule template, weekly, Google Sheets (7 words). That is our example, not an Etsy-approved one.
Disclosure line (our suggestion)
Etsy does not prescribe wording. A plain line for the description:
Design note: this template was created with the help of AI tools from my own prompts, then reviewed and edited by me.
Adjust it to what is true for your product. If AI only helped you brainstorm, say what it actually did. Etsy also says bundles of AI prompts do not qualify as your own design.
Honest limits
- Etsy does not define its “Bestseller” badge or “in N carts” labels, so do not treat them as sales proof.
- Etsy tells sellers digital items must be your own work. A pasted template from someone else, or a file you cannot explain how you made, is a risk to your shop.
